Biography
Magick
is the ferociously individualistic vision of
founding members Robert Hanna (singer) and Angga
Tarmizi (guitarist), two life long friends who first
started playing music together in high school in the
mid-90s.
After gigging extensively in their native Austin, Texas,
the hand of fate separated the band for a time, but the
plans were laid early on for a reunion.
The members knew instinctively the day would come when
they would reunite and proceed with fulfilling the band’s
destiny. After a four-year separation, a new and improved
Magick, now in their early 20s, regrouped and relocated
to Boston, now focused on nothing else but bringing that
dream to life.
Having been active performers in Austin and abroad, the
members of Magick cover a wide range of musical backgrounds
extending from hard rock to jazz-fusion to eclectic electronic
experimentation. This is reflected in the diverse songwriting
styles of the band, which include all these elements but
are still packaged in a melodic pop rock setting.
Inspired by the legends of the past (Hendrix, Zeppelin,
Sabbath), Magick is currently influenced by modern groups
such as U2, Econoline Crush, and Incubus.
With a new EP and rhythm section, Magick now plays frequently
in the Greater Boston area, with eyes set on future expansion.
The band sees every live performance as an opportunity to
give the audience not only an unbelievable show, but also
a chance to share unforgettable moments that can only be
described in the human conscious as ‘magick’.
